Last week I had a friend help me put up an article directory to support my Content Spooling Network service.? He was using Article Dashboard on his site, so that was the script of choice for mine as well.

Here’s my quick review.

Pro’s

1. It is free.
2. It uses a popular template that article submission scripts already know how to use.
3. It has search engine friendly URLs.
4. It has a large user base with an active forum.

Con’s

1. Your site will look the same as a lot of other article directories.
2. The script is encoded so it can’t be edited.

All in all, I’m very happy with the Article Dashboard script — mainly because it works.? And I’ve been able to do some hacks to the php code by wrapping the encoded files inside another.? In this way, I’ve been able to customize it to my liking and plan some more customizations soon.

If you’re planning to start an article directory, Article Dashboard is certainly the most popular and will definitely work for you.
