A week ago I asked my blog readers, “What is the most pressing need for your online business?”  I opened up comments for your responses — something I don’t normally do.  (Comments on my posts are usually only allowed through a ping from another blog.)

The #1 need most people expressed was to get more traffic to their site.

What I found interesting was that many of those who said they need more traffic failed to link to their website in the very blog comment stating they need more traffic.

What makes this most interesting is that I released a simple “find-blogs” script a couple weeks ago and hundreds of you purchased it.  The premise of this script is to find blogs that don’t employ the “nofollow” tag and will pass full link-weight to the link in your comments.

Getting more traffic to you site is not some mystery… each visitor to your site can be directly traced back to some traffic generation work you or someone else did on behalf of your site.

By and large people get to your site through links.  When people find these links, they tend to click on them.  When the search engines find these links, they give you higher placement in the search engines.  Either way, you just got another visitor to your site.

I’m not telling you anything new… but obviously this fact hasn’t been internalized by many of you.  If you see an opportunity to add another link to your site… TAKE IT!  Whether in blog comments, forum signatures, article marketing, etc.

Traffic Generation Procedures…

Three or four of you took my challenge last week and submitted your best performing traffic generation procedure.  As my “payment,” tomorrow I’ll be adding a one year link to your site in the sidebar of this blog — so you can get even more traffic!
