Thought I’d share with you the tools I use for choosing, purchasing, and hosting domains…
Choosing Domains
When I’m trying to choose a catching domain name, my tool of choice is www.instantdomainsearch.com. As the name implies, you can type away and see instantly whether the domain is available.
Purchasing Domains
I’ve tried a couple, but I’ve stuck with www.namecheap.com. Contrary to the name, you don’t always get the cheapest price on a domain (unless you can find a coupon code). However, the tools available for managing your domains (and transferring them) are very simple to use.
Hosting Domains
If you can afford it, I’d go with www.rackspace.com. Don’t expect to get a dedicated server for anything less than $500 per month. But the support is top notch. I love being able to call them at any time to get things worked out. I’m actually having a few minor issues with server speed now (We’ve published near 200,000 articles in the past 7 months — it takes a lot of resources!) and they are very helpful in sorting through the issues.
If $15 per month is more up your alley, I highly recommend www.hostgator.com. You can host unlimited domains and the cPanel management is super. This blog is currently hosted on my hostgator account.
